The I2SysBio hosts the course “Gender Equality in Science” on October 13 and 14
On October 13 and 14, the Institute of Integrative Systems Biology (I2SysBio, CSIC-UV) will host a new edition of the course “Gender Equality in Science”, co-organised by the Institute of Materials Science of Madrid (ICMM-CSIC). This training, given by renowned experts in the field of equality in the research environment, was created as an initiative of the network of equality committees of the CSIC centres on the Cantoblanco campus, and since last year it has begun to spread throughout the country.
The course aims to provide training in equality to staff working in the field of research who have not previously received training in this area. It is particularly important for those who manage human resources, lead groups, or are part of equality committees.
Through a programme consisting of various lectures, the aim is to provide an overview of the gender perspective in its legal, historical and cultural frameworks, as well as to present about the measures used to implement gender equality in science, their meaning and their repercussions.
With all this, this course aims to create a growing community of people trained in gender equality who are working professionally in the scientific field.
The teaching staff for this edition consists of Zulema Altamirano, Leni Bascones, Capitolina Díaz, Marta García, Susana Guerrero, Pilar López, Begoña Marugán and Alicia Tamarit. The presentations will focus on topics such as non-sexist language, unconscious biases, current legislation on equality, protocols against sexual harassment, and LGBTQIA+ diversity and gender equality in science. The course is led by Silvia Gallego, from the ICMM-CSIC.
The training will be structured as a two-day programme, running from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day. Registration is open until all places are filled. Anyone interested in attending can find registration information and the full programme on the course website. The course is free and open to both CSIC staff and staff from other public entities working in joint centres.
