The I2SysBio participates in an educational programme at Iowa State University

For sixteen years, the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Valencia has had an agreement with Iowa State University (ISU) to host ISU biology students in its laboratories for one month.

This year, five students have collaborated with various research groups, including Emma Foley and Alyssa Schlimmer, chemistry and biology students, respectively, who joined the Metabolic Systems Engineering group at I2SysBio and were supervised by pre-doctoral researcher Alba Arévalo. The students, accompanied by the programme director at the ISU, Moe Gupta, were welcomed on 9 June by the vice-dean, Carmen Agustín-Pavón, together with the tutors from the host laboratories. For a month, they familiarised themselves with laboratory techniques and procedures while continuing their educational and cultural activities at the University of Valencia. Another group of students participated in parallel in the programme of activities, talks and excursions, ‘Valencia as a Biology Lab’, organised by staff from the Faculty and the Cavanilles Institute. The students presented their experimental results in a session on Monday 7 July, before beginning their return journey. At this session, Professor Gupta expressed his gratitude and satisfaction with the stay, and Vice-Dean Agustín-Pavón expressed her willingness to continue this enriching collaboration with the ISU.
