I2SysBio staff participates in the activities of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science

International Day of Women and Girls in Science

Since 2015 and at the request of UNESCO, it is celebrated every February 11 International Day of Women and Girls in Science. In 2022, various I2SysBio members participate in activities related to this commemoration.

The International Day of Women and Girls in Science, celebrated each year on February 11, is a reminder that women and girls play a fundamental role in science and technology communities and that their participation must be strengthened. The celebration of this day is led by UNESCO and UN-Women, in collaboration with institutions and civil society partners that promote access and participation of women and girls in science. Various members of I2SysBio have been involved in carrying out various informative activities related to this commemoration.

Rosa Márquez Costa, doctoral researcher in the Biosystems Design group, participates in the initiative “Women in Science” (WINS) organized by the Department of Postgraduate and Specialization of the CSIC. On the other hand, the Ramón y Cajal program researchers Pilar Domingo-Calap, who heads the Environmental and Biomedical Virology group, and Mireia Coscollà, leader of the Bacterial Pathogenomics group, participated on Tuesday, February 8, at the Science Bar of the Espai Ciència (October Center for Contemporary Culture) with the topic “Conviure with the coronavirus.”

Pilar Domingo-Calap and her group also They carry out a variety of activities that include conferences and workshops in educational centers, from primary to high school levels. The "Virus Hunters" workshop visits the Gençana Educational Center (February 8), the Comenius educational center (February 11) and the Picassent Town Hall (February 20). The conference "Viruses as an alternative therapy in the fight against multiresistant bacteria" is held at the IES Joanot Martorell and at the San Francisco and Santo Domingo School, Vilamarxant (February 11). Likewise, Pilar Domingo gave the inaugural lecture of the from Benidorm (February 17). Finally, Emilia Matallana, professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and director of I2SysBio, gives the conference "Women and Science" at the IES Meliana (February 9) and at the Center Municipal de Joventut d'Algirós, while she gives the talk "Biotechnology, in your life, daily", co-organized on the occasion of the celebration of February 11 by the Nautilus Association and the Sapiencia Association (Casa de la Culture of Puerto de Sagunto, February 14).
