Specialists from the University present two works on Darwin on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the book L'origin de l'home

L’Octubre Center de Cultura Contemporània de València all Thursdays 8 to 19 hours a science bar in which a book (Illuminating human evolution) and a magazine (volume 71 of Treballs de Societat Catalana de Biologia) will be presented and discussed, published on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the work L’origin de l’home of the English naturalist Charles Darwin. Dimarts November 16, at the Pi i Sunyer Room of the Institute of Catalan Studies (Barcelona) the two works will also be presented.

Juli Peretó, professor of Biochemistry at the University of Valencia, and Jaume Bertranpetit, professor of Biology at the Pompeu Fabra University, respectively, are the editors from the book Illuminating human evolution. One hundred and fifty years after Darwin (Col·leccion Sin Fronteras, Publicacions de la Universitat de València-Unitat de Cultura Cientifica Universitat de València, 2021).

This book brings together the most important contributions of specialists with different visions and perspectives on the evolution – among them Janet Bowne, official biographer of Darwin–, that provide different visions and current perspectives of human evolution from psychology, archeology or ethology. According to Juli Peretó, "a very complete overview of the diversity of approaches currently being studied in the evolution of humanity has been achieved." València), author of volume 71 of the magazine Treballs of the Catalan Society of Biology which also includes the aforementioned work of Darwin with a central eix.

In the Barcelona event from 16 to 18 hours, in addition to Juli Peretó and Jaume Bertranpetit, Ester Desfilis, professor of Psychology from the University of Lleida; David M. Alba, director of the Catalan Institute of Paleontology and David Comas, professor of Anthropology at the Pompeu Fabra University. This act is organized by the Catalan Society of Biology and by the Institute of Catalan Studies.

The act of Valencia has continued to be organized by the Spanish Science of October CCC with the collaboration of the Institute of Catalan Studies, Cultural Action of the Valencian Country, the Culture Unit Scientific and Innovation of the University of Valencia, the House of Science (CSIC), the magazine Mètode, the Fan Set bookstore, the Catalan Society of Biology and Publications of the UV. This activity is part of the Scientific Dissemination Plan of the UCC+i of the University of Valencia, which is co-financed by the Fundació Espanyola per a la Ciència i la Tecnologia and the Ministry of Science and Innovation.
