Valentín Villaverde and María Martinón explain two perspectives of evolution on the occasion of Darwin Day

The University of Valencia and the October Science Space Center for Contemporary Culture commemorate Charles Darwin Day with two conferences in which on Wednesday, February 10, the scientific contributions of the English scientist and naturalist will be highlighted. The two events will be online through the link https://ir.uv.es/G2T0W3D or by scanning the QR code of the diptych.

Thus, At 1 p.m., there will be a conference by the director of the National Center for Research in Human Evolution (CENIEH) of Burgos, María Martinón-Torres, "New findings on human evolution in Eurasia. The fossils that Darwin did not know about." At 7 p.m. there will be a conversation between the professor of Prehistòria Valentín Villaverde and the journalist Reis Juan, on the occasion of the publication of the book of the first The Neanderthal Gaze: origins of visual art (Col·lecció “Sin Fronteras”, Scientific Culture and Publications Unit of the University of Valencia).

Darwin's Day is celebrated annually on February 12, with a multitude of events all over the planet, to pay tribute and disseminate the contributions and legacy of the biologist who revolutionized evolution with his theory of natural selection based on common ancestors. This year, in addition, marks 150 years since the publication of his work The descent of man and selection in relation to sex.

The Science Space is a program of activities sponsored by the Institute of Catalan Studies, Acció Cultural del País Valencià and the Chair of Dissemination of Science/Unit of Scientific Culture and Innovation of the University of Valencia, with the support from the Higher Center for Scientific Research (CSIC), the Fan Set Bookstore and the Mètode magazine.
