The Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit publishes the videos of the UV Evolution Morning dedicated to the COVID-19 pandemic

The XXI Matinal de la Evolución, a day of scientific dissemination aimed at secondary and high school teachers, was held this year held online and has been dedicated entirely to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event, on May 16, was attended by expert personnel such as Xavier López-Labrador, Mireia Coscollá, David Alonso and Carolina Moreno, who analyzed the epidemic from genetics, biology, mathematics, sociology and communication. You can access the videos here: http://ir.uv.es/A9R6UqW.
The videos that show the XXI Matinal de la Evolución in their entirety can be consulted at the playlist of the YouTube channel of the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit (UCC+i) of the University of Valencia. The virtual informative day appears on the platform divided into 6 videos that correspond to the sections that the event had.
In the first recording you can find the welcome given by the rector of the University of Valencia, Mavi Mestre, in which she recalled the importance of offering quality services and disseminating science to society.
Each of the four talks by the specialist staff is published in a different video. Thus, the first presentation and the second video correspond to Xavier López-Labrador, senior researcher at the National Health System and associate professor of Microbiology at the UV, who summarizes the main diagnostic strategies used with the new coronavirus. Mireia Coscollá, biologist and researcher from the Ramón y Cajal program who leads the PatoGenOmica research group of I2SysBio (UV-CSIC), explains the importance of knowing SARS-CoV-2 and its genomes.
The fourth video is from the third speaker of the day, David Alonso, physicist and biologist, currently a scientific researcher at the CSIC, who describes the advantages of encapsulating the dynamics of the spread of an infectious disease in a mathematical model. Carolina Moreno, professor of Journalism and researcher at the Polibienestar Institute of the UV, as well as coordinator of the ScienceFlows research group, in the video shows several indications to detect lies and manipulations around COVID-19.
The sixth video published on the UCC+i channel of the University of Valencia includes the final debate, moderated by Juli Peretó and where the experts resolve some of the questions. the questions asked by the audience through the chat.
This activity is part of the scientific dissemination plan of the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit of the University of Valencia and which has the support of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology and the Ministry of Science and Innovation, and with the collaboration of the Delegation of the Rector for Incorporation into the University (UV), Permanent Training Service and Educational Innovation (UV), Cavanilles Institute of Biodiversity and Evolutionary Biology (UV), Institute of Integrative Systems Biology I2SysBio (UV-CSIC), Faculty of Biological Sciences (UV), Botanical Garden (UV), Publicacions de la UV, Revista Mètode (UV), Catalan Society of Biology, Institut d’Estudis Catalans.
