I2SysBio researchers collaborate in the Girls4STEM project

Girls4STEM is a project to promote scientific vocations, especially among girls, in the areas called STEM (for the acronym in English of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) through outreach activities aimed at young people, as well as families and groups in the educational field. The project is financed by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECyT) and the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (MICIU) and is sponsored by different companies and entities. Àngela Vidal and Emilia Matallana, I2SysBio researchers, participate in the Girls4STEM project of the Universitat de València.
The project, led by the Higher Technical School of Engineering (ETSE) of the Universitat de València, aims to publicize the research or professional activity of people who chose to specialize in STEM disciplines, particularly women, through the creation of a group of STEM experts who It will make visible the participation of women in this field and to provide girls with close and contemporary references, inspiring scientific vocations. This group of experts serves as the basis for the development of two types of activities: the “Family Talks” and the “Professional Talks”.
Two researchers from I2SysBio are part of the STEM experts of the Girls4STEM project from the ETSE-UV: the predoctoral researcher Àngela Vidal, who is carrying out her doctoral thesis in the Biotechnology and Synthetic Biology research group, and the professor of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Emilia Matallana, who directs the Industrial Yeast Biotechnology research group. Professor Emilia Matallana will participate on Thursday, December 19, 2019 in the session Your Youyou within the cycle of “Professional Talks”, which will take place at 7:00 p.m. in the Graduate Hall of the Fundació Universitat-Empresa ADEIT.
